Café 2232, Sutherland

Thrilled to discover another decent coffee joint in The Shire.  Though I am kicking myself.  I have walked past Café 2232 countless times over the past three years to visit Sally’s vet a few doors up. You could say that Sutherland Veterinary Clinic is a second home for us of late.  It was after dropping Sally off again for a procedure, yet again, that Josh and I decided to call in and have breakfast.

Café 2232 is situated on the ‘other’ side of the tracks.  Prime location directly opposite Sutherland train station and just down from the main bus terminus.  You could say that this is the ‘quite’ side of Sutherland.

Double Roasters, Marrickville

Confession, I have become a coffee snob.  I don’t blame myself at all, mind you.  I blame all these wonderful little cafes that roast their own beans, and boutique roasters popping up all over Sydney.  My snobbery is their fault completely.

I am slowly making my way around town and trying some very good cups indeed.  It has come to the point that my coffee pod machine at home isn’t satisfying me any more.  I am seriously thinking of buying a real machine in order to buy some beans to take home from the various places I visit.  Next you will be reading about me taking a barista course.

Brewtown, Newtown

Brewtown, Potts Point or Brewtown, Maroubra just doesn’t have the same ring as Brewtown, Newtown.  It really had to find it’s home in that suburb for rhyming reasons alone.

I am not the first to write about Brewtown.  Social media is abuzz regarding their cronuts and great coffee, and bloggers have been blogging.  I thought I might as well join the Brewtown bandwagon.

Green Tea & Lemon Myrtle Crème Brulee + Nerada Giveaway {Closed}

I am not a dessert person, not at all.  If dining out, often when others are having dessert, I will opt for the cheese plate.  It will take something exceptional to head for something sweet, but there is one general exception.  Crème brulee, if I see it on the menu, then there is a high chance it will be chosen.  The magic of cracking through that thin toffee layer to get to a creamy custard wins me over every time.

High tea with Stephen Twining a new Aussie blend

Exciting news, Australia finally has its own tea blend, Australian Afternoon Tea,  thanks to Twinings.

Earlier this year Twinings set a challenge for 40 Australian celebrities to create their own perfect Australian Afternoon Tea blend.  Blending packs were sent out and our Aussie celebrities blended away.  The final results were sent over to London for assessment by a Twinings expert panel.

The top five celebrity blenders were; Radio Broadcaster Alan Jones, TV Personality Kerri-Anne Kennerley and her husband John, Singer John Williamson, Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd and Champion Surfer Layne Beachley.  It was then up to the public to vote for the winning blend, around 85,000 Australians ended up voting.

Stephen Twining

A high tea at the Observatory Hotel was the perfect setting to announce the winning blend, and Stephen Twining, 10th generation Twining Ambassador was in Australia to make that announcement.  It was for this reason I found myself sitting down for a friendly tête â tête with Stephen over a cup of Russian Caravan before the event.  The drawing room of The Observatory Hotel is absolutely stunning, very much the parlour for having tea.

Stephen is the perfect example of an immaculately groomed English gentleman, with a manicure that puts my fingernails to shame.  Actually the manicure makes perfect sense, I am sure that every time he picks up a cup of tea people would be focusing on his hands. Read more →
