Eat Now, Thai Vintage, Sylvania + A Giveaway!

20 Jun
June 20, 2014

The heading almost sounds like I am ordering you to run out the door and head to Thai Vintage in Sylvania for a meal. Well you can, I’m not saying don’t. But if you live within their delivery area you are able to order on line, and have them bring the food to you.

Home delivery isn’t a new concept, restaurants have been doing it for years. I know I have been ordering home delivery for just as long, and in winter I am more tempted. Long workdays, plus shorter sunlight hours, equals me not wanting to cook or to head out the door to a restaurant. I would rather sit by the fire with a glass of wine.   I wonder if that’s just me? Would love to see the statistics on that one.

Age Hana from Kyoto Giveaway

26 Sep
September 26, 2013

Those that follow me in social media and are regular readers of Belly Rumbles will know I was back in Japan last month.  I spent a few days in Kyoto on my travels, and when in Kyoto a visit to the Nishiki markets are a must.  I was walking through the markets and dropped in to one of my favourite shops.  They sell all kinds of lollies as well as these gorgeous little flowers you fry and use as a garnish.

They are called ‘Age Hana’, or in English ‘Fried Flower’.  Simple to prepare, all you do is fry them in oil and they puff up into hana (flowers), ha (leaves) and sakura (cherry blossom).

When I was picking up a few packets for myself it dawned on me I should pick up a couple of packs to giveaway on Belly Rumbles.  So I did. Read more →

Mejico, Sydney

17 Jul
July 17, 2013

I am a massive fan of mushrooms and they are a staple in my kitchen.  When I was approached to be one the official Mushroom Mania bloggers for 2013, saying yes was a no brainer.

What is Mushroom Mania I hear you ask.  Each July the Australian Mushroom Growers ask a few bloggers from around Australia to seek out delicious mushroom dishes from local restaurants and cafes.   This is in conjunction with a great competition they have running for the general public too, but more about that at the end of the post.

Why am I am fan of mushrooms?  Mushrooms are one of nature’s pure and natural superfoods.  They are high in flavour and low in kilojoules, that fact alone wins me over hands down.  They contain Vitamins B, B12 and D, as well as antioxidants.  The Power of Mushroom website will give you the complete rundown of why this superfood is super for you.

As mushies are something we eat at home regularly, I don’t necessarily order them when eating out.  Well actually, as I think about it now, I do.  Breakfasts and brunches are a must with a side of mushrooms.  If I order a pizza, it always has mushrooms on it, always!.  Eating at the local Chinese, there is always a stir fried vegetable dish ordered that is generous with mushrooms.   I suppose I just don’t actively think about ordering them, they are ordered naturally.

It was quite interesting when I started to seek out places to eat that make mushrooms the king of the dish.  When you have a good look, there are amazing mushroom dishes all over Sydney.

I had been wanting to try Mejico since it opened, and Josh happily chose it as the destination for the family dinner to celebrate his turning 21. Read more →

Casa Barilla Cooking Class with Eugenio Maiale & Class Giveaway

28 May
May 28, 2013

You may have taken part in a Barilla cooking class when visiting  a food show around town.  Like their cooking classes at the Good Food and Wine Show.  What I didn’t realise until recently is that Barilla actually run cooking classes throughout the year at the Casa Barilla Cooking School, located in Annandale.

They are Italian cooking classes, of course, and are run by Executive Chef Luca Ciano.  They are fun intimate classes, the format can vary depending on what is being covered.  They can be hands on or pure demonstration.  And we have a class for two to giveaway!

It was a demonstration class that I attended.  Casa Barilla are running a series of classes with prominent Sydney chefs.  In my case it was a Master Class with Eugenio Maiale, head chef and owner of A Tavola in Darlinghurst.

On arrival we are offered a glass of prosecco and there is a generous antipasto plate for all to enjoy.  I am more than content to munch on prosciutto, olives and cheese while waiting for the other class attendees to arrive. Read more →

Tim’s Surf & Turf, Darwin & Win the Ultimate Date Night thanks to Berlei

10 May
May 10, 2013

Berlei have just launched their new Dig Free legwear and to help celebrate I have a indulgent prize up for grabs on Belly Rumbles.

I have to admit that I am a bit of a Berlei bra girl.  Okay that was probably sharing to much information, but they are one of two brands of bras that are my favourite for the curvy girl with larger assets.

I also have to admit that I didn’t realise Berlei extended their range to legwear.  Berlei’s new Dig Free range (RRP $15.95) is specially designed to hide those natural lumps and bumps that most of us get.  A cleverly engineered waistband and the unique garment control technology, smoothes away those bumps and muffin tops for a sleeker shape which gives you a confidence boost.  Available in a range of colours and denier, which are perfect for the coming Winter.

Berlei-web-imageI have been pretty strict of late with my diet.  I am basically attempting to get in to shape and shift a few kilos before August.  What’s happening in August you ask?  It’s a secret for now, but all will be revealed later this year. Read more →

Back to School/Work Lunch Ideas + Win a Year Supply of GLAD Products

08 Feb
February 8, 2013

{Competition Closed}
When I received an invite from GLAD to attend a sandwich masterclass with my ‘little one’, I initially thought ‘but my little one isn’t so little!’.  Then amusing visions of my 6’2″ ‘little one’ attending a sandwich masterclass with hip high kids filled my head.  The thought appealed to me no end, so much so I put it out there on my private Facebook profile to see what friends thought of the idea.  I received many a ‘LOL’ and ‘Do It!’ responses.  Which resulted in a ‘yes’ RSVP to GLAD’s kind invitation.

This is how my ‘little one’, Josh, and I ended up at Food, Wine & Dine surrounded by real little ones and a bunch of mummy bloggers.  Actually a first time experience for me with mummy bloggers and I was quite glad to have my 6’2″ security blanket with me for company, they all seemed to know each other, we were definitely the odd ones out.
