I have been toying with the idea of starting a blog for quite a while and today I took that leap and started Belly Rumbles. I want to share my passion for food, and wow do I have a passion, waistline sadly reflects that!
I love to cook, there is something about creating a beautiful meal to share with the ones you love, seeing plates empty and satisfied smiles on faces. To explore and find new ingredients and successfully come with a wonderful creation is extremely satisfying. I am addicted to sourcing new and exciting ingredients.
My kitchen, funnily enough, is not filled with 1000s of gadgets, I am satisfied with the basic approach of having a couple of well sharpened favourite knives. One of them actually was my grandmother's and is a nice way to remember her on a daily basis.
Restaurants, yep I do enjoy eating out. Firstly even though I love to cook it is nice to have a night off and be pampered. Secondly, it is fun to see what the professionals are doing and learn and experiment at home from what you find out. I love discovering chefs that take an out of the normal view on cooking and present you with something special and unique.
In Belly Rumbles I want to share my cooking successes and hopefully make you laugh along with my failures (yep they can be just as fun at times as the successes), I want to share my restaurant adventures and generally share my world of food.
My father is Latvian and from an early age I was influenced by my grandmother's cooking, sadly she passed away 13 years ago and she took quite a few of my favourite recipes to the grave with her. Part of Belly Rumbles will be me experimenting to try and recreate some of those lost dishes.
My mother has also been an incredible influence on my love of food, I was spoilt growing up with her desire to experiment and love of French cooking. So when most Aussies were eating lamb chops and veggies I was presented with incredible gastronomic delights. I have her copy of LarousseGastronomique taking pride of place in my kitchen, it is older than I am.
My Auntie Tilly made the most amazing marmalades, something I am yet to master to my satisfaction and my Uncle Jim (her hubby) was a navy chef. Whenever we were over there for Sunday baked dinners there was enough food to feed a fleet.
A lot of my treasured memories are based around food, which I suppose cannot be helped when you have a love for it.
So let's begin our Belly Rumbles journey.

The only thing better than Larousse Gastronomique has got to be a vintage copy of it!

Thanks Helen, I am hoping that this will be a fun shared journey.

What a great way to start a food blog. Love the stories about your grandma, aunt, uncle and parents. A lot of my best memories are steeped in food too. Glad you've started the journey - the first step is always the hardest part!
