The Magic Carpet Suites are probably the most asked about suite on the Celebrity Cruises' Edge class ships. These cabins are the cheapest suites with access to The Retreat on Celebrity Edge (with a traditional verandah).
I stayed in this suite on an 11-night cruise from Sydney to Tropical North Queensland (return) in October of 2025.
Join me for a complete walk-through, with detailed pictures of what you can expect if you are considering booking a Magic Carpet Suite, including a list of all the pros and cons associated with this cabin.

Celebrity Cruises Edge Class Ships
There are five ships in the Celebrity Cruises Edge series built by Chantiers de l'Atlantique of France. The first ship in the series is the one I travelled on, Celebrity Edge, debuting in 2018.
The Celebrity Edge was followed by Celebrity Apex (2021), Celebrity Beyond (2022), Celebrity Ascent (2023), and Celebrity Xcel (2025). Another ship, Celebrity Xcite, is planned to launch 2028.
What sets these ships apart is that they were designed to create a closer connection between you and the sea. They feature The Magic Carpet and infinity verandahs, giving more passengers a "balcony" experience.
What is the Magic Carpet?
The Magic Carpet instantly distinguishes the Edge Series from the rest of Celebrity's fleet. It is a large orange platform located in the middle of the ship. It is suspended from the starboard side (right-hand side when facing forward).
The Magic carpet moves between decks 16, 14, 5, and 2. On each deck, it serves a different purpose: a platform for tenders, a bar and a restaurant.

Magic Carpet Suite
The Magic Carpet Suites get their name as they are positioned directly below the Magic Carpet on decks 6 to twelve. The Magic Carpet passes by the balconies of these suites on its way to decks 5 and 2.
During our cruise, I saw the Magic Carpet pass our veranda twice. It moves very slowly, isn't very noisy, and crew/passengers are not allowed to ride the Magic Carpet while it's moving. You can see it passing the suite on my Instagram Clip (it took 4 minutes in total to pass).
The Suite
The Magic Carpet Suite is a Sky Suite, but there are a couple of differences I'll get to later in the pros and cons.
Our suite is 10176. It is positioned in the middle of the ship on deck 10. The suite is the same size as a Sky Suite. Due to the position of the Magic Carpet, the suites are positioned further out from the side of the ship with a larger balcony.

Due to an inside stateroom in front of these suites, access is via a short, locked corridor. This has two benefits: extra security and a buffer from the noise of those passing in the main passageway.
If necessary, the additional door you see below connects to stateroom 10178 to link the cabins. If not, 10178 uses the main passageway to enter their cabin.

There is no checking in on board the ship to collect your suite key. The key is an envelope at the entrance to your cabin.

The suite is spacious with plenty of room to move around. There is a large king-size bed with Exclusive eXhale® bedding that has a cashmere mattress.

Your suitcases are stowed easily under the bed. There is ample closet and drawer space for storing clothes.

Your suite also has a two-person lounge, a round table, a television you can connect your Netflix account, a minibar next to a set of drawers, and a writing desk with a chair. There is also a power box to charge your electronics.

On the bedside tables, you will find a phone on one side and a USB charging and power outlet on the other.

The complimentary stocked minibar is refreshed daily, as well as bottles of water. An ice bucket is provided and filled on request. Our butler filled our ice bucket each evening on turn down. That way, we could have a nightcap, on returning to the suite after dinner.
On arrival, there was a complimentary bottle of champagne on ice for us to enjoy.

The Bathroom
They don't skimp on space in the bathroom, and no issue of smashing your elbows on the bathroom walls, as I have discovered on other cruising adventures.
There is a separate toilet. The shower has glass doors and is positioned over a shallow bathtub. Plus, a convenient sitting area where you can apply makeup. Like the rest of the suite, there is plenty of storage.

Extra towels, toilet paper, and tissues are stored away. Shampoo, conditioner, and soap are exclusive to the Retreat range. A small bin and hair dryer.

Your bathroom, along with the suite, is serviced daily. In the morning, usually when you are having breakfast. Then again, in the evening, when you are at dinner with a turn-down service.
The Verandah
The verandah is what drew my attention to the Magic Carpet Suite. I love having a balcony on a cruise ship, but they can be rather small. Due to the ship's design and movement of the Magic Carpet, the verandah is double the size of a normal Sky Suite.
The extra room is fantastic. The real bonus is, besides two chairs and a table, there are two sun lounges on the verandah. This means you have your own sanctuary to sip a cocktail or two while reading. Or simply drifting off while listening to the waves roll past.

There are four Magic Carpet suites on each deck between decks 6 and twelve. Two end suites and two middle suites. Our suite was an end suite with a porthole on the side of the verandah facing forward.
On forums, the end suites generate some controversy as the portholes look onto the infinity veranda cabins.
Unless you are standing at the porthole, you can't see into the cabins. If people are standing at the window of their infinity veranda, they can see into the corner of your space.
Throughout the entire cruise, I only saw people in their cabins once or twice. I must admit I wasn't looking. What I did like looking at is up towards the front of the ship, and the little bit of extra shelter provided by the Magic Carpet's framework in bad weather.

Magic Carpet Suite Pros and Cons
There were many different and contradictory viewpoints when I was investigating whether to book the Magic Carpet Suite or not. In many cases somebody's "pro" was another person's "con". Many wouldn't book anything else, and others would never stay in that type of suite again.
Personally, I think the "pros" outweigh the "cons" and would book a Magic Carpet Suite again. The extra-large balcony will win me over every time.
The Pros
- The Magic Carpet Suite is the same as the Sky Suite.
- The balcony is double the size of the Sky Suite.
- The verandah has sun lounges. This is only found in the top tier suites with large balconies.
- It is less expensive than the Sky Suite.
- Access to the exclusive Retreat amenities.
- Two out of four suites have a side porthole on the balcony, adding to your view.
The Cons
- The bed does not face the verandah as it does in a Sky Suite.
- There isn't a window in the bathroom you can open when brushing your teeth to look out over the bed to the balcony. It was surprising how many people thought this was an awesome perk.
- Two out of four suites have a side porthole on the balcony. Some felt it gave a lack or privacy.
